About the Eye Eye Disease & Treatment What to Expect Camps & Outreach My Appointments

1. About the Human Eye

The human eye is one of the most intricate organs in the human body, functioning very much like a digital camera. Light rays pass through the clear front window (the cornea), are focused by the natural crystalline lens, and form an inverted sharp image on the light-sensitive retina at the back of the eye.

Cornea

The clear, dome-shaped outer surface providing about two-thirds of the eye's total focusing optical power.

Crystalline Lens

The transparent flexible structure behind the iris that changes shape to focus near and distant objects sharply.

Retina & Macula

The multilayered neuro-sensory coat converting light signals into nerve impulses. The macula gives high-definition color vision.

Optic Nerve

The biological cable composed of over a million nerve fibers carrying visual data from the retina directly to the brain.

Daily Eye Care Rule (20-20-20 Rule):

When working on computers or mobile screens, look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes to prevent digital eye strain and dry eye syndrome.

2. Eye Disease & Treatment Guide

Early diagnosis is crucial for preventing irreversible vision loss. Review the common ophthalmic disorders treated at Netradarpan Hospital:

Cataract (Chhani)

Symptoms: Clouded, blurred vision, difficulty driving at night, glare around lights.

Treatment: Micro-Incision Phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens implantation. Same-day discharge.

Glaucoma (Kala Motia)

Symptoms: Often zero early symptoms; gradual loss of peripheral vision, optic nerve damage.

Treatment: Daily hypotensive eye drops, Nd:YAG Laser Iridotomy, or surgical filtration trabeculectomy.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Symptoms: Floating spots, blurred vision, sudden dark visual patches caused by leaking retinal blood vessels.

Treatment: Retinal Green Laser Photocoagulation and Intravitreal Anti-VEGF injections.

Dry Eye & Allergy

Symptoms: Burning, grittiness, redness, foreign body sensation exacerbated by air conditioning.

Treatment: Preservative-free lubricating drops, lipid gels, and anti-inflammatory eye drops.
